Slovenia lies at the heart Europe. It became an independent state in 1991 and has been a member of the European Union since May 1st 2004. Euro was introduced as the state currency on Jan 1st 2007. Slovenia borders Austria in the north, Croatia in the south, Hungary in the east and Italy in the west.

Currency and banking
The Slovene currency is EUR.
All major credit cards (Mastercard-Eurocard, Visa, American Express, Diners etc.) are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and stores.
Banknote dispensers – ATM (Automatic Transaction Machines) are available for cash withdrawal with the aforementioned credit cards.
